Are you a passionate and experienced leader who wants to make a lasting difference to people's lives? This is an exciting opportunity to lead our Safeguarding Adults Team, helping to ensure adults at risk are safe, heard and supported to live independently within their communities.

Working with colleagues across health, social care and partner organisations, you'll have the chance to influence safeguarding practice, support professional development and drive positive outcomes for some of the most vulnerable people on the Island.

What you'll do

  • Lead and inspire a dedicated Safeguarding Adults Team, ensuring high-quality, person-centred safeguarding practice.
  • Oversee Section 42 safeguarding enquiries in line with the Care Act 2014 and local safeguarding procedures.
  • Champion the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal, ensuring adults and their advocates remain at the heart of decision-making.
  • Build strong partnerships across agencies to deliver effective and timely safeguarding responses.
  • Support and develop staff through coaching, supervision, quality assurance and professional development.
  • Promote high standards of social work practice that are fair, proportionate and outcome focused.
  • Drive continuous improvement, helping to shape and strengthen safeguarding services across the Island.

The Isle of Wight Council is committed to supporting all newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) via a robust post-graduate competency framework, the ‘Assessed and Supported Year of Employment’ (ASYE). The ASYE is intended to be the first stage of continuing professional development for Registered Social Workers. The framework will be closely allied to the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF).  You will be therefore, be required to satisfactorily complete the ASYE programme within a 12-month period (or 18 months if part-time).
