The Isle of Wight Council is a forward-thinking organization committed to addressing the urgent challenges of climate change and environmental sustainability. We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Climate and Environment Manager to lead our efforts in climate action and adaptation, coastal and beach management, and environmental conservation.
As an Island community there are wonderful work life balance opportunities as well as unique challenges. Home to large areas of AONB and designated an UNESCO Biosphere reserve we offer great places to walk, run and cycle or enjoy the coastal waters sailing, surfing, and kayaking.
We welcome candidates either from within our community, are looking to relocate or able to work flexibly and commute regularly via the transport gateways at Yarmouth, Cowes, East Cowes, Fishbourne or Ryde.
As the Climate and Environment Manager with an additional focus on Coastal Protection, you will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing strategies to safeguard our coastlines, promote sustainable practices, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and government agencies to drive initiatives that protect our coastal ecosystems and ensure a resilient future for our communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stay updated on the latest climate and environmental regulations and incorporate them into our strategies.
- Develop and execute comprehensive coastal protection and restoration plans.
- Collaborate with environmental experts and engineers to design and implement sustainable solutions for climate and environmental adaptation and resilience action.
- Monitor and assess environmental impacts and climate risks to coastal regions.
- Engage with local communities, NGOs, and government bodies to build partnerships and support conservation efforts.
- Manage a team of dedicated professionals, providing leadership and guidance in achieving environmental goals.
